Founded in 2004, Edinburgh Art Festival is the UK’s largest annual festival of visual art. We bring together the capital’s leading galleries, museums and artist-run spaces, alongside new public art commissions by established and emerging artists and an innovative programme of special events. The vast majority of the festival is free to attend.
We support Scottish and international artists to make new and ambitious projects which engage with the extraordinary context of Edinburgh in August. Presented principally in public spaces, our commissions allow access to overlooked or neglected parts of our city’s heritage. The next programme will be announced towards the end of May 2018.
A festival initiative dedicated to providing greater opportunities for artists at the beginning of their careers to participate in the festival programme. The call for submissions for the 2018 festival will open in January 2018.
Our site-specific permanent exhibitions are free to visit and enjoy all year round within Edinburgh.
As well as our festival projects and exhibitions, we offer a daily programme of events, talks, tours and performances during the festival. Details of next year's programme will be announced at the beginning of June 2018.
Presented across leading national institutions and artist run spaces, our rich programme of exhibitions developed by our partners is a chance to experience ambitious and innovative presentations of some of the very best historic and contemporary artists from Scotland, the UK and beyond. Exhibitions continue throughout the year.
Each year the festival issues a call for projects and events conceived especially for the festival. Taking place in pop-up venues across the city, this programme is a chance to discover new work in unusual spaces. The Open Call for submissions for the 2018 festival will open in January.
Taking place in partner galleries and venues throughout the city, Art Late is a series of specially programmed openings and events every Thursday evening in August during the festival, taking in live music, artist performances, talks and tours.
