Double Disaster (Closing Down) presents a video pilgrimage to the site of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1969 car crash in Durness, alongside key works by Yokollection.
Exploring themes of death, sexuality, fetishism and fandom, Yokollection transport the viewer from Inverness in the Highlands to the far North West of Scotland as they learn to drive with the aid of a local instructor, Craig. This video work also references J.G. Ballard’s Crash (1973) – a story at the conjunction of car crashes and sexual fetishism – and Andy Warhol’s Silver Crash (Double Disaster, 1963).
Yokollection will also be showing a new lookbook made in collaboration with Warriors Studio, a melty document which chronicles the brands works to date. The showcasing of this is timed with another part of Yokollection’s story in that the ‘brand’ is currently bust and part of the exhibition will play out the brand’s demise with ‘closing down’ banners…’everything must go’.
Yokollection is the name under which Alexa Hare and Francesca Nobilucci have collaborated since 2013. Rooted in their shared fandom of Yoko Ono, Yokollection is a visual art project posing as a pseudo fashion brand.
