Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop have invited French artist Caroline Achaintre to make new work for their large outdoor courtyard.

Achaintre is know for her work across fabric; in the form of tufted rugs; ceramics, using paper clay; drawing, print and watercolour painting. She often integrates small sculptures within larger support structures, called ‘display furniture’, and exhibition schemes. Her work brings together abstraction, figuration, humour and materiality, the individual sculptures sometimes becoming ‘characters’ which evoke their own narrative connections. The strength of internal, fantastical imagination comes to the fore in much of Achaintre’s work and this marries with the practical application of many making techniques, from her original training with metal to her use of clay to create highly tactile surfaces.
